Residency Art Gallery, in conjunction with 3B Collective, is proud and honored to present Amor Hecho Visible, a 15-Year Survey from the incredible El Mac.An exceptionally rare solo exhibition, "Amor Hecho Visible," presents retrospective of El Mac's remarkable journey covering fifteen years — from a respected graffiti writer to a globally recognized artist. Balancing his graffiti roots, public art, and collectors' acclaim, this exhibition provides a distinct perspective within the traditional art world.
Guided by Kahlil Gibran's wisdom that "work is love made visible," El Mac's art embodies an unwavering dedication to craftsmanship through his expansive murals, meticulously painted canvases, and highly sought-after print editions. El Mac’s work is influenced by classical art, social realism, symbolism, and Chicano culture. This retrospective will serve as an appreciation for the harmonious blend of diverse influences, tracing El Mac's commitment within the evolving landscapes of his artistic creation. In an era where preserving artistic integrity is a formidable challenge, El Mac's journey serves as an extraordinary testament. About the Artist
El MAc
EL MAC (Miles MacGregor) is an internationally renowned artist born and based in Los Angeles. He began painting both smaller indoor works as well as public murals and graffiti in Phoenix in the mid 1990s, and since that time has developed his unique visual aesthetic and rendering style which utilizes repeating contour patterns. His work draws on influences from classical European art, social realism, symbolism and devotional art, as well as the Chicano and Mexican culture he grew up around. He is best known for his meticulous paintings and large-scale murals exploring feminine beauty and honoring ordinary, overlooked, or marginalized people. He has been commissioned to paint all over the world, for museums, universities and other cultural institutions, including the Groeninge Museum (Belgium), San José Museum of Art (California), Northeastern University (Boston), University of California (San Diego), QAGoMA (Brisbane), Fondazione PRADA (Italy), and the Mexican secretariat of Foreign Affairs, as well as murals in Belgium, Cambodia, Cuba, Denmark, England, Germany, Ireland, Morocco, Puerto Rico, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, and Viet Nam. For over twenty years he has aimed "to uplift and inspire through careful, perfectionist renderings of both the sublime and the humble".
ABOUT THE CURATORS
3B is a collective of artists and designers that along with producing individual works, create site-specific installations, public artworks, and murals. All of the collective members come from immigrant and indigenous families and are committed to providing a platform for inclusive works which encourage pride and recognition of the different facets in our communities. The collective’s work addresses social inequities by creating public works that would not be possible as individuals, sharing resources, and providing peer support. Members of the 3B Collective that will contribute to Highways & Byways include Alfredo Diaz, Aaron Estrada, Michael Khosravifard, Gustavo Martinez and Oscar Magallanes.
