Art Basel Miami Beach // Larry Li

December 1st - 3rd

Larry Li is a Chinese American Artist living and working in Los Angeles. Li’s work operates in a space of cultural and material contrast, combining the visual language of Chinese culture along with his experiences as a child of Chinese immigrants. His paintings draw from the personal and historical photographs that delve into the intersections of familial and political histories. Migration Amnesia is a body of work that positions Li’s personal history in contingent with the events of the Tiananmen Square Massacre of 1989. Paintings of civil unrest sit next to paintings of familial moments to illustrate the duality of tenderness and trauma as he works to unravel the amnesia of his migration.
